After a long wash day, it’s tempting to sleep without drying your locs properly. But doing this consistently can damage your locs.
What Happens When You Sleep on Wet Locs?
From experience caring for thousands of clients with locs, a few things can happen with locs when you consistently sleep without drying those locs. These include:
- Mildew or musty smell because trapped moisture leads to buildup and odor.
- Scalp irritation, itchiness or flakes.
- Loc thinning or rot, especially at the roots or ends.
- Your locs may become flat and unhealthy
How to Properly Dry Locs
- Use a microfiber towel or T-shirt to soak up excess water from your wet locs
- Sit under a hooded dryer or use a blow dryer on cool setting
- Give yourself enough time between washing and sleeping so that the locs can properly airdry
- Always sleep with a satin or silk bonnet to reduce friction and maintain moisture.
At HairloomNG, we prioritize proper locs care. If you are confused about how to properly take care of your locs, feel free to contact us to schedule a consultation or an appointment.
