Yes you can. In fact, lice on natural textured hair because they can infest any clean or dirty hair regardless of texture. The idea that afro hair is immune to lice is a myth. What Lice Look Like in Afro-Textured Hair
Lice are tiny, greyish-white bugs that move quickly and hide from light. In afro-textured hair, they’re often harder to spot. Nits (lice eggs) appear as small white or yellowish ovals stuck near the scalp and are often mistaken for dandruff, but they don’t flake off easily.
How to Spot and Treat It Safely
Use a fine-tooth lice comb and examine the scalp under bright light. Signs include persistent itching, especially behind the ears and at the nape of the neck. Treatment options include:
- Lice shampoos that are safe for afro hair
- Natural remedies like neem oil, tea tree oil, or apple cider vinegar
- Repeating the treatment after 7–10 days
- Washing all bedding, scarves, and bonnets
Avoid harsh chemicals or relaxers, which can irritate your scalp further.
